Peugeot has revealed its new mid-sized E-3008 SUV, featuring three electric powertrains, a new interior design for the brand, and a new platform for the Stellantis empire.

Replacing the current second-generation of 3008, it has debuted with electric power but internal-combustion and plug-in hybrid options will be available in some markets as with the outgoing model.

Peugeot Australia has confirmed the E-3008 is coming here, and it’s working with Stellantis “to review launch timings and specification for our market”, with more information to be revealed in due course.

The E-3008 was leaked last week, revealing a more rakish, coupe SUV silhouette with a window behind the C-pillar to aid visibility around the vehicle’s blind spot.

Peugeot says the small ‘floating’ spoiler is a continuation of the model’s sloped roof and was inspired by the Quartz, a concept car revealed by the brand back in 2014.

The E-3008 rides on 19-inch (Allure) or 20-inch (GT) wheels, both featuring the geometric design typical of Peugeot’s updated design language.

Also emblematic of Peugeot’s updated design cues are the ‘three-claw’ lighting elements front and rear. GT models get pixel LED headlights and a 3D-look to the three-claw rear lighting elements.

Peugeot also notes that the E-3008 maintains the same 520-litre boot capacity as its predecessor despite having a slightly more raked rear end.

It’s the first vehicle from Stellantis to use the company’s STLA Medium platform, which supports combustion, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains.

Offered in two trims, Allure and GT, the E-3008 will be available in 157kW standard range and 170kW long range front-wheel drive variants, plus a 240kW dual-motor all-wheel drive flagship.

All E-3008 models use a 400V lithium-ion battery, which can be charged at up to 11kW on AC power (22kW with the optional three-phase charger) and up to 160kW on DC power.

Peugeot says the E-3008 can go from 20 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes when plugged into a 160kW charger.

The brand claims a WLTP range of 525km with the 73kWh battery in both single- and dual-motor guise, and 700km with the 98kWh long range battery.

Customers can use the E-3008’s high-voltage battery to power an external device thanks to the model’s 3kW and 16Amp vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.

Mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options will be offered, but the company hasn’t detailed these as yet. It also promises “one powertrain for international markets”, suggesting there will still be an engine without any electrification.

The brand’s new 48V mild-hybrid petrol powertrain features a PureTech turbocharged 1.2-litre Miller cycle three-cylinder engine that provides 101kW of power and 230Nm of torque.

Peugeot says the STLA Medium platform will offer improved handling thanks to new front and rear axles and a low centre of gravity.

Measuring in at 4540mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1640mm tall, Peugeot will look to take on the Tesla Model Y in the medium SUV segment.

The E-3008, in GT guise, debuts the French brand’s new Panoramic i-Cockpit.

It features an instrumentation display and infotainment touchscreen in a 21.0-inch curved display area that’s angled towards the driver, but still accessible to the front-seat passenger.

Below the infotainment screen is a piano black control pod housing vents, buttons to control the automatic transmission, and a smaller i-Toggles touchscreen that can accommodate up to 10 customisable on-screen buttons.

The ergonomic two-spoke steering wheel has piano black capacitive buttons on the spokes, which won’t activate until they are pressed with intent.

Ambient lighting, with eight colour options to choose from, stretches across the whole dashboard, and along the doors, reflecting onto real aluminium trim.

Allure models stick with an i-Cockpit layout with two 10-inch screens.

Steering wheel paddles will also allow drivers to optimise their regenerative braking between low, medium, and high settings to optimise energy usage.

The E-3008 will offer a wide range of active safety and driver assist features, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, semi-automatic lane change functionality, and 360-degree cameras.

Peugeot will manufacture the model at its Sochaux plant in France and will begin taking orders in Europe in February 2024.

The company claims more than 500kg of green materials, including both metals and polymers, will be used throughout each E-3008.

The E-3008 will be followed by a larger electric SUV, the E-5008, which Peugeot will release more details on in 2024.

The company has set milestones for its electric transition, including electric versions of all its model lines by 2025, and strictly EV sales in Europe by 2030.

The brand already has a growing offering of electric vehicles including the e-2008 and e-Partner in Australia, with the e-208 and e-Expert set to join them in 2024.

CEO Linda Jackson said the electric alternative to the popular 3008 model is what will “usher Peugeot into a new era” of electrification.

The outgoing 3008 reached over 1.32 million customers across 130 countries during its seven-year lifetime.
